This hotel is in a good location in the charming old town of Zurich close to the Limmat river and lake. Zurich is an expensive city, of course, and we selected this hotel for a two night stay based on its location and price. We booked a family room and they squeezed two portable beds in for our two teens - so suffice to say it was pretty snug. We included breakfasts in the booing which was probably a good option to feed up the teens given the high cost of pretty much everything in Zurich. But this hotel did the trick and was a good spot to use as a base to wander the city streets and get a ferry to the Lindt factory. Yum.

Nice hotel in the old town. Had a small room on the fifth floor. Everything was well organized so it was quite comfortable in spite of the size. Slept really well! Downside was the price (holy moly zurich is expensive!) and the bathroom floods!

At home at the Altstadt Hotel

It felt like staying in someone's home - an absolute joy to stay at the Altstadt Hotel in Zürich. From the very heartfelt welcome at reception where the lady couldn't have done more to assist us, to a friendly an helpful colleague later that evening at reception and an attentive and efficient breakfast room the next morning. Now, for the bedrooms - wow! Each room (we had 2) are personalised to an author, with quotations around the room, copies of their works on the table and a range of quirkiness throughout. My room was like a bedroom in a very nice home, whilst my friends had old-fashioned folding cinema/theatre chairs and a bed frame from somewhere in history.... and a bathroom in the style of a conservatory with a TV from the 70s.... it was brilliant! There was a flatscreen modern TV in the bedroom too!! Coffee/tea making facilities were in the rooms along with a chargeable bar with fridge. Location is excellent in the old town (die Altstadt) . No on-site parking due to location (narrow streets, not possible), but parking provided in a major secure 24hr access car park less than 10 minutes away - details from reception and they validate your parking ticket upon departure. You can walk around Zürich from here and take in all the main sites, including a boat tour on the lake, as we did. Eateries are readily accessible for a range of budgets around the hotel and there is a café behind reception, which is part of the hotel itself. Lift access to the hotel as well as stairs - although you do need to walk up the 2/3 steps to the lift from reception. I would go there again! Loved it.

Stayed here in June for one night en route to Italy, we were meant to stay three nights however due to some last minute business commitments I had to reduce the stay. The team were helpful and changed the booking from three nights to one with no hassle or charges. The location is superb, rooms are small but functional, clean room, modern bathroom and good service. My only comment would be that it doesn't have air conditioning, understandable in such an old building, and it would be nice if they had some English TV channels. Otherwise I would recommend it for a simple place of good value in a great location to stay.

Great location- Very well connected to public transport and tourist spots. Has some cute cafes and restaurants and boutiques around as well. The breakfast was good- Great service as well. The receptionists are very helpful as well. The room we got was small as it was on the top floor and we had to be vary if not bumping our head into the celling. The bathroom was super small as well. Overall great experience and would recommend it for short stays. We were stationed here for 3 nights. P.S. the view from this hotel is AMAZING!
